Statement of Faith
Great Plains Christian Radio is a ministry helping to fulfill the great commission of Jesus Christ. Christ’s commission to us is: to proclaim the Gospel and to teach all things He has commanded us. Therefore, both an evangelistic and an educational thrust are part of the broadcast ministry of GPCR.
- We believe the Bible to be inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God. We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
- We believe in the deity of Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.
- We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful men, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.
- We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.
- We believe in His grace, mercy, love and forgiveness when we stumble.
- We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.
KJIL 99.1FM is Dedicated to Regional Ministry
In 1985 a group of farmers and business people from throughout Southwest Kansas met together seeking God’s leading regarding the development of a Christian radio ministry to that region. They decided to form Great Plains Christian Radio as a non-profit organization. Since that time the organization has grown to four full-power stations and a network of over twenty low-power repeater stations. Flagship station KJIL, Meade, KS went on the air in 1992, KHYM, Meade, KS went on the air in 1997 and in 1999 KJOV, Woodward, OK was purchased from Living Word Fellowship. The ministry has won national awards from the National Association of Religious Broadcasters (NRB), the Gospel Music Association, Kansas Association of Broadcasters (KAB), Focus on the Family and the Marconi Award.
In 1983, Pastor Gene White of Chicago had accepted a new position in SW Kansas. After settling in, he relaized there was no Christian radio presence in the region, and he knew how it had impacted him, and how it could be used as a vehicle to change lives in his new home. “So, how do you start a Christian radio station” he thought.
After experimenting with rebroadcasting the Moody Network on local cable tv, and meeting with a group of businessman from the SW Kansas area, a plan was put in to motion to bring a local Christian radio station to the area.
All good things come to those who wait, right? Jim Fairchild was brought in as the first Manager of KJIL. He did a lot of the leg work getting FCC approval for the original KJIL license. After Jim had moved on, the board of directors of Great Plains Christian Radio brought in Don Hughes to cast the vision for the future and steer the course in the days and years ahead. After several years of fundraising and waiting on approval from the FCC, a 100,000 watt station and studios and 1000 ft+ antenna were built, and KJIL signed on the air June 1st, 1992.
Today, Michael Luskey, who came in 1992 as Operation Manager, is now CEO/GM and steering the only local Christian radio voice in the region, along with our board of directors and incredible staff, as we look towards the future. Thanks for all YOU do to make it possible to God’s glory!
During the course of 2001 Great Plains Christian Radio purchased 105.7FM from Tri-County Broadcasting with the aim of developing a locally run, regionally focused station in Central and North-Central Kansas. This goes against the trend in Christian radio today as many organizations simply repeat satellite programming. The Great Plains Christian Radio programming philosophy is that a local station active in the region can minister more effectively. Since going on the air August 16th, 2001 KJIL 105.7 has sponsored many Christian concerts and events throughout the region and does regular contests. We want to build stronger individuals, families, churches, and communities and to do so we are dedicated to be involved in those communities.
Having a regionally based ministry requires support from the area. We hope you are seeing the advantage of our approach to ministry and will consider supporting it financially. We are member of the National Religious Broadcasters and Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability and gifts are tax deductible.
KJIL 99.1 programs contemporary Christian music featuring artists like Mercy Me, Chris Tomlin, Francesca Battistelli, Casting Crowns, Steven Curtis Chapman, Mandisa, Toby Mac, Laura Story, Tenth Avenue North, and many others.
